"We absolutely loved this experience and weekend away; it’s my second visit, and I'm already looking forward to booking again, next year. We started off, with the first night in Polly's garden, in our gypsy caravan. 'The Barge Inn' pub gave us a lovely meal whilst we chatted about how excited, we were, to take the wagon and horse out, tomorrow. (Top tip- a baby’s travel cot fits perfectly in the wagon, so it’s like home from home for the baby). The next morning we woke up, flung open the door and were greeted by about 50 cows the other side of the fence. The children (2 & 4 years old) were giggling like mad. We cooked sausage, bacon and beans, on the gas stove, and ate it whilst basking in the morning sunshine".
Next job- groom and harness up the horses ready to go!! The ladies were great at teaching us how the harness goes on and giving instructions on how to drive the wagon. We had Dan (the new boy) pulling our wagon, we looked after us very well :)
We all had a go at driving and really enjoyed the experience. It feels like something out of a peaky blinders scene as you sit up front, children on your laps, beer by your side and beautiful black horse pulling you along the quiet country roads.
Next- hook the horses up, 2 hour lunch break at a good pub and off we go again to the wild camping field.
This night was our favorite as you get to have a big camp fire, cook your dinner on the fire (or eat at the pub), the horses are loose in the field with you and you really feel like you have gone back in time. The girls loved sitting on the horses bareback and having a ride up and down the paddock. You look after the horses as your own, putting their fly spray on and topping up their water bucket.
Later in the evening a wonderfully quirky busker comes to your campfire (must pre book with Polly) and plays the fiddle and sings to you. We toasted marshmallows and drank hot chocolate. Does it get any better?
We woke up that morning, lit the fire, cooked a full English. Then moseyed down to the café, little shops and garden center.
That afternoon we drove Dan and the wagon back to Polly’s. Gave the horses a good wash down and the children played in Polly’s paddling pool.
The whole trip is an amazing experience, I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a break from the fast pace of busy life, truly slow down and go right back to nature.
See you next year!!
