I can't imagine a better way to experience the magic of Wiltshire than ambling through the countryside in a horse-drawn caravan. We were lucky enough to get really nice weather, and the hypnotic clip-clop of our horse Ned's hooves, the beautiful green fields rolling past, and the occasional glimpses of the Alton Barnes White Horse on the nearby hillside combined for the perfect summer experience. The pubs we stopped at were well-chosen and the night 2 campsite was particularly nice, with a fire ring and even a warm shower. Waking up to see Ned happily grazing in the adjoining field was like something out of a storybook!
Polly is a terrifically attentive host and a lovely person who clearly adores her animals. She went out of her way to ensure that we were comfortable and we always felt well cared-for. As a family of four with 11- and 14-year old girls, it was definitely a tight fit for all of us to sleep in the caravan, but Polly made sure we had enough extra pillows and blankets so we could make it work. Likewise, our groom, Ruth, was an absolute gem. There was more traffic than I would have expected on these tiny back roads, but Ruth directed it like a pro and Ned never even flinched. She was incredibly patient with both Ned and us and we were grateful to have her with us.
Our lives are so rushed these days and this was a wonderful way to slow down and take the time to appreciate the beauty around us. Thank you to Polly, Ruth, Jane, Lauren and especially Ned!
